Unpasteurised milk and the American right

Raw milk, formerly considered a "fringe health food for new-age hippies and fad-chasing liberal foodies,"  

has now "won over the hearts and minds" of the US right-wing.  

Before 2008, selling unpasteurized milk directly to people was usually banned in the United States, as it came straight from the cow and not heated to kill pathogens.  

The FDA warns that the bacterium can be lethal.   

Aries The previous chief of the FDA's plant and dairy food safety section, John Sheehan, famously equated drinking raw milk to "playing Russian roulette with your health".
